Shame

I’ve been holding back a tale - as Wedding Bells was getting so many comments - but I can hold it in no longer!

But first - I’ve had a very pleasant weekend. D and me got loads of house painting done and we watched three movies - two on DVD and one at the cinema. Firstly we watched Master and Commander (I managed to fall asleep during that - I was very tired!) and we watched Kill Bill Vol 1. We went to see Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind at the cinema which was very enjoyable. As we left the cinema we overheard a group of Spides commenting that it was the most fucked up film that they had ever seen. What sheltered lives they must live.

Now my tale of shame -

On Friday at work I had to cover reception for the last hour of the day. It was the first time I had done it, so had to be given lessons in how to use the switchboard. My poor little ears were red raw from all the phone action - and that was the switchboard at a quiet time. As it was a bank holiday this weekend most of the folks at work went home early. And boy was I glad!!!!!! I had protested at the notion of working at the reception as I don’t really think that I am a people person and I’m certainly not cut out for public speaking being a little prone to stuttering when panicked. At the reception you sometimes have to put a call out for a member of staff over the tannoy system. I had got to about 4.55pm without having to put out a call and then disaster struck. I pressed the button and the bing bong bing came out on the speakers and I started to speak, “Could…”, I had accidentally let go of the button so had to press it again, bing bong bing, “…Oops”. The girl at the dog licence desk started laughing at this point and I nervously started laughing too whilst speaking into the microphone, so, everybody in the building heard it. People leaving the building all laughed on their way out - I explained it was my first time and I had been made laugh. No, it wasn’t heavy breathing!! That is why I’m glad that the building was half empty. But all in all quite a stressful day with red ears and a red face.

And that is my tale of shame
