Another weekend over and another week started. Mondays are not my kind of day.

At the weekend a new law came into force that means parents in England and Wales may face 5 years in jail for smacking a child so hard that it leaves a mark. I was smacked as a child, but never that hard. For me the biggest fear was of my Mother yelling at me. Plenty of people I know were threatened and hit with wooden spoons, but I guess that’s illegal now. One woman I spoke to says that she got through many wooden spoons – not that she was breaking them on her little dears’ backsides – she just broke them in a rage against the kitchen work surfaces.
