Put the kettle on

The door knocks.

Outside I find a McN workman holding a piece of crushed pipe. He says, “I hope you weren’t planning on inviting us in for a cup of tea”. The thought hadn’t crossed my mind. Why? “Well, we’ve cut through your water pipe”. And me with guests arriving at any moment! How long will it take you to fix it? “Give us half an hour”.

The first half hour passed with very little activity with the damaged pipe.

The second half hour saw a little more activity and gushing, severed water pipes.

The door knocks.

The McN workman is back and says, “let the water run a while before you fill the kettle; leave the teabag in and just a wee drop of milk”.

My guests (Dad and L) arrived a little later and I was able to offer them a cuppa.

We had another little problem with the water before the day was over, but we got it fixed and were able to get on with spending a lovely weekend with family.
