Jeyes Fluid

Well, I got my replacement worms for the wormery and threw them into it. Every time I went to check on them I found them all at the top trying to escape! I swore at them and called them bad names. I thought they were ungrateful, sure hadn’t they been thrown in with a heap of delicious food!

Turns out they were trying to escape because of the toxic fumes in the wormery. 150 worms went in and only 22 live worms remain.

I killed them.

Turns out that wormeries are not supposed to smell of rotten-ness, they are supposed to smell of earth. Mine has been rotten since I got it, and the gas released by the rotting food has killed my new batch of worms.

So, I kitted myself out in heavy duty rubber gloves and armed myself with Jeyes Fluid to clean the blasted wormery out. The rotted food has gone into our grey wheelie bin to be taken to the landfill site. Gracie hung around and licked things that fell on the ground. I then yelled at her for being a dirty dog!

The wormery has been scrubbed with Jeyes Fluid and new worms purchased from our local newspaper/bait shop. I will make a nice bed of shredded newspaper for the worms and throw them in. I will feed them very little to start with as I don’t want them to become overwhelmed by food and I will stop putting onion and citrus in the bin (they make it acidic).

I love worms!
