Pizza and Cake

I have been craving cake for days - I am female and cake cravings are entirely normal. When I got home from work I decided that I would have to do something about it and recalled a cake that Auntie Ganching had made with chocolate and marmalade - Store Cupboard Chocolate-Orange Cake. The recipe is from How to Be a Domestic Goddess by Nigella Lawson and starts off by saying that it is the sort of cake you can make in a few minutes once you get home from work. A few (rather a few!) minutes later and I had a chocolate cake in the oven. Most of my dithering was over whether or not to put in marmalade, cloudberry or pear & ginger jams. I decided on a mixture of marmalade and pear & ginger. It smells good. I will report later as to taste.

Also on the menu is pizza, which I must now assemble.

Update:

Chocolate Cake & Ice Cream

Both pizza and cake were yummy.

  • I made the same cake last night when I got home from work at ten. We were having coffee and cake morning in work and I had promised to make something for it. I have to say I got a lot of positive feedback on it.

(I’m home for a week on thursday so it would be good to see you - I have a new pair of boots to break in!)

  • I’m thinking about heading to Rathlin (maybe Sunday) are you interested in coming?

  • That is a good looking cake you made there. Oh cake cake, I love cake. I have been dreaming of this cake: http://www.thewednesdaychef.com/the_wednesday_chef/2008/03/heather-stewart.html

(I made the lima beans from that site and now I dream of them daily and nightly. Yum. That picture of the duck rilette looks like sick on toast though! )
Me and Violet were looking through her grade 1 journal the other day and it had a page about cake and it being the best in the universe and good for your body and eyeballs too. Her mothers daughter.

    xoxo

  • Nothing like cake for your eyeballs - looking at cake can be just as good as tasting cake. Hannah and I made buns on Friday night, they were a bit floppy but were very tasty. Chocolate with coconut icing and bits of crystalised violet.
